European street — Europe travel eSIM guide

Summary

If you’re hitting more than one country, buy a regional Europe eSIM rather than separate single-country plans. EU’s “Roam Like at Home” rule lets one plan work across all member states, plus the UK, Switzerland, and Norway on most YonoSIM plans.

Why a regional Europe eSIM?

Buying separate plans for France, Italy, and Spain triples your spend and your install effort. A regional plan attaches to the local carrier in each country automatically — you never see the seam between Schengen borders.

Coverage by country

  • France: Orange / SFR 5G in Paris, Nice, and Lyon.
  • Italy: TIM / Vodafone 4G/5G across Rome, Milan, Florence, Venice.
  • Spain: Movistar / Orange 5G in Barcelona, Madrid, Seville.
  • Germany: Telekom / Vodafone 5G in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt.
  • UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland: included on most regional plans — verify on the plan page.

Install timing — before you fly

Install on home Wi-Fi 1–3 days before departure. The eSIM only starts counting validity when it first attaches to a network in Europe, so installing early does not “waste” any days.

FAQ

Is hotspot allowed?

Yes on most metered plans. Unlimited plans sometimes throttle hotspot — check the plan detail.

Do I need to remove my home SIM?

No. Keep your home SIM for calls and SMS (so 2FA codes still arrive) and route data through the eSIM. Settings → Cellular Data → pick the eSIM.

What about Switzerland and the UK?

Both are included on most YonoSIM Europe regional plans. After Brexit, the UK is no longer in EU’s roaming zone, but our wholesale partners maintain the inclusion as if it still were.

Will my US/Canada phone work?

Yes if it’s eSIM-capable and carrier-unlocked. iPhone XS+ and recent Pixel / Galaxy phones all qualify. See compatible devices.

Bottom line

For any Europe trip touching more than one country, the regional eSIM is dramatically cheaper and simpler than per-country plans or roaming. Buy on your way to the airport, land with data running.
